Elisha Sheffer, Jade Wilds, and Rachel Molstre created this website as MLIS students at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. We collected resources that would be valuable to our local communities on the topic of mental illness.
Standards and Collection Strategy
- Many resources limit themselves to popular mental illnesses like depression or anxiety. As such, we searched for resources that covered a wide spectrum of mental illness. In other words, we sacrificed depth for breadth in the interest of making the community aware of the variety of mental illnesses they might encounter in themselves, their family members, or their friends.
- In the interest of promoting early recognition and treatment of mental illnesses, we focused our search on resources targeting adolescents and young adults with mental illness.
- We used Google as our search engine of choice and limited our sources to government, educational, or non-profit organization websites.
- We looked for resources that provide empathetic explanations of mental illnesses, medically accurate lists of symptoms, and reliable help lines, treatment centers, or outreach programs.
